Why Making Bad Decisions Beats Making No Decisions At All

Don't get stuck in decision making hell.
We often fall into a pattern of fear when trying to make the right decision. The more life changing the decision, the harder it gets. This causes us to freeze and not want to make a choice.
My daily writing routine can being challenges on what to write about. I found myself deciding between too many topics. I struggled on which direction to go, looking at my screen for five minutes before I had to snap myself out of it. I even considered taking the day off.
That would have been a mistake.
Missing a single day isn't a big deal, but now that I've built the habit, missing a day felt like an attack on my identity. Sometimes taking a day to consider your options is necessary. In this case missing a day would have meant my daily routine wouldn't be daily anymore.
Once I got out of my own head, I went to the basics and chose something that would help me in other areas I plan to build from. To be honest, any topic would have been fine, as long as I made a decision.
What about larger decisions?
"It is better to make the wrong decision than to make no decision."
-Theodor Roosevelt
Theodor Roosevelt is correct in this quote above. Making no decision comes from the fear of the unknown makes us stuck. When you're stuck, opportunity for success is left behind, leaving you with regret. Even if we make the "wrong" decision, there is an opportunity to learn.
We grow from our failures.
I was stuck considering what I wanted to do with my life. This was a decision between sticking with my current career, or finding another direction. This was my hell. There's stability and job security in my current career, but I'm not happy. Looking between stability and something new created a toxic cycle.
I was frozen in fear. Having tried different things and failing over and over again made it tough, but it built my resilience. I went back to my dreams and found the direction I needed. I'm a writer a heart and an entrepreneur, it was time to dive in. Instead of hoping for something new, I made the decision to act. I'm building skills for a new life.
That change is scary. It's not worth letting fear hold you back.
“Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker. Failure is delay, not defeat. It is a temporary detour, not a dead end. Failure is something we can avoid only by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.”
- Denis Waitley
Life is full of decisions, some large, others small. Don't let the fear of failure stop you. It's okay to fail, that's how we learn, grow, and improve. Knowledge gained from failure will help you better understand the next decision, potential risks, and better opportunities.
“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”
-Winston Churchill
The next successful person is one failure away from success. Make the decision to improve your life, go after a dream, or change the world.
Just don't let it stop you.
